Alzheimer's Project Funding

Right now, Florida Legislators are proposing budget cuts that will eliminate funding provided to Alzheimer's Community Care for direct services to patients and their caregivers.

UPDATE:  Funding for Alzheimer's Projects has been put back in the Florida Senate's budget and is up for approval.  See the amendment here.  Continue to urge and thank Jeff Atwater for not turning his back on patients and caregivers living with Alzheimer's disease.

This will affect virtually everyone who attends the Specialized Adult Day Service Centers in Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie Counties.

What You Need to Know:

  • 25% of patients will no longer be able to receive dementia-specific adult day services
  • 80% of patients' care nationally is provided by informal caregivers
  • Premature institutionalization will become the only option for many

With Alzheimer's Project Funding, Alzheimer's Community Care achieved the following in 2008/2009:

Palm Beach County

  • 381 patients were served in eight Specialized Day Service Centers
  • 733 patients and caregivers were served by five Family Nurse Consultants
  • 129 crisis calls were received through the 24-Hour Crisis Line

Martin County

  • 109 patients were served in two Specialized Day Service Centers
  • 179 patients and caregivers were served by one Family Nurse Consultant
  • 8 crisis calls were received through the 24-Hour Crisis Line

St. Lucie County

  • 44 patients were served in one Specialized Day Serve Center
  • 148 patients and caregivers were served by one Family Nurse Consultant
  • 25 crisis calls were received through the 24-Hour Crisis Line

Urge your Florida Legislators to keep Alzheimer's Project funding in the budget, so that patients and caregivers will receive the support they desperately need.
