Vulnerabilities of Cognitively Impaired Patients in Acute and Post-Acute Care Settings

Vulnerabilities article:

Patients with Alzheimer’s disease or a related neurocognitive disorder (ADRD) are uniquely vulnerable in health care settings in which their cognitive impairment may be neither recognized nor understood. There are a variety of reasons for which patients with ADRD experience more frequent emergency room visits and hospital admissions, undiagnosed episodes of delirium, and general escalations in overall morbidity and potentially  life expectancy. This course explores these unique vulnerabilities and provides substantive strategies for addressing and mitigating each.
