Dance Therapy
Dance therapy allows those with Alzheimer’s disease and related neurocognitive disorders to move as a means of communication and connection. While patients can often become frustrated with decreased verbal and cognitive ability, dance allows them to express their feelings and experience fun and joy through movement. Studies show that rhythmic group movement, facilitated by a dance therapist, can foster alertness, and enhance memory and cognitive organization in patients.
Music Therapy
Music improves cognitive abilities and behavioral symptoms in those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and related neurocognitive disorders. Music also provides a safe, artistic outlet for patients to enjoy, studies have found music therapy to improve memory, language, information processing and attention span. We’re proud to have partnered with The Elevar Foundation, an organization dedicated to making music accessible, to bring musical performances to our day centers.
Art Therapy
Art therapy, whether through making or engaging with art, is incredibly impactful for those with Alzheimer’s disease and related neurocognitive disorders. Whether painting or drawing or simply looking at art, art therapy provides a creative outlet for self-expression and communication and has found to be a way to reduce anxiety and produce a sense of calm to what can be a frustrating disease for many patients.
Companion Pets
Feelings of loneliness and isolation are common amongst patients of Alzheimer’s disease and related neurocognitive disorders. Robotic companion pets are designed to look, feel, and sound like real house pets, but without the responsibilities. Robotic dogs and cats are a great option to combat loneliness and provide comfort, joy, and companionship to those living with Alzheimer’s.
